Berry Monsoon

Berry Monsoon was a Franchise Exclusive Mountain Dew flavor available from May 2018 to October 2023 only at Sam's Club stores.

Description[]

Berry Monsoon was a Berry Lime flavor of Mountain Dew and had a blue-green look, had an identical tasting flavor and color to that of 2015's Game Fuel (Berry Lime), from which its formula was derived.

Half-diet formulation[]

Main article: Flavor 514C

Berry Monsoon was essentially a "half-diet" version of Berry Lime, as it had High Fructose Corn Syrup content reduced by half, and the addition of the artificial sweeteners Sucrolose and Acesulfame Potassium. This was done in order to reduce calories.

Tagline[]

Its tagline was "DEW with a Storm of Berry Lime Flavor."

History[]

In March 2018, Mountain Dew Berry Monsoon first appeared on the official PepsiCo Beverage Facts website. The website indicated that this flavor would only be exclusively available to Sam's Club store locations in the United States.

On May 2nd, 2018, in a r/MountainDew Reddit post, it was leaked that by a user named u/asiansteev posted an image of Berry Monsoon in a soda fountain. It shows that Berry Monsoon was released in his local Sam's Club, marking the beginning of Berry Monsoon being released in Sam's Club locations as a permanent flavor.

October 2023 discontinuation[]

On October 13th, 2023, it was leaked by Team Supernova that Sam's Club-exclusive Berry Monsoon alongside its Zero Sugar variant have been discontinued as confirmed by a DM. Additionally, an update was provided on Purple Thunder's expansion which showed that it would be released in February with the inclusion of 12-pack cans and a Zero Sugar variant release in May 2024.

Variants[]

Berry Monsoon Zero Sugar[]

On March 21st, 2020, in a r/MountainDew Reddit post, Berry Monsoon Zero Sugar was seen listed as "MTN DEW MONSOON ZERO SUGAR" on a nutrition label at a Sam's Club location. At the time, the zero-sugar drink isn't in the fountain yet.

In November 2020, a listing on the official PepsiCo Beverage Facts website was discovered of Berry Monsoon Zero Sugar. However, it did not show a render of the drink. Fans were skeptical if this would become available or not.

On April 17th, 2021, a render was added to the listing, confirming that it would be coming to Sam's Clubs in the near future. Berry Monsoon Zero Sugar was later discovered as early as July 31st, 2021.

Trivia[]

  • Berry Monsoon is the third berry lime flavor that has been produced in the Mountain Dew lineup, the first being Triple Berry, and the second being Game Fuel (Berry Lime).
  • According to the nutrition facts, Berry Monsoon has a nearly identical formula listing to Game Fuel (Berry Lime) with only a few minor differences. This was also the case with 2019's Cyclone and 2013's Sangrita Blast, two very similar Citrus Punch flavors.
  • By coincidence, Purple Thunder, Berry Monsoon and Atomic Blue were all released on May 2nd and all three flavors are exclusive to a certain franchise.
  • Berry Monsoon is one of the first much earlier Franchise Exclusive flavors before the Franchise Exclusive flavors became a prominent staple of Mountain Dew's lineup in recent times.
