Sangrita Blast

Sangrita Blast was a Franchise Exclusive Mountain Dew flavor available from 2013 to 2017 only at Taco Bell restaurants. In the summer of 2015, it was released in cans and bottles for a limited time only alongside Baja Blast.

Description[]

Sangrita Blast was a Citrus Punch flavor of Mountain Dew and had a maroon look, having an identical tasting flavor and color to that of 2019's Cyclone.

Tagline[]

Its tagline was "DEW with a Blast of Natural & Artificial Citrus Punch Flavor."

History[]

Following the success of Baja Blast, Sangrita Blast was made available in Taco Bell beginning in December 2013, alongside five other drinks, one of which was Diet Baja Blast (now known as Baja Blast Zero Sugar).

Sangrita Blast was discontinued in 2017 and was replaced by another Mountain Dew flavor, Spiked (Lemonade).

After the discontinuation of Spiked (Lemonade), and along with Spiked (Raspberry Lemonade) in 16 ounce cans, Spiked (Lemonade) was still available in the Taco Bell restaurant soda fountains in the United States, but it was currently in the process of being phased out, starting December 2018, to make room for the return of Diet Baja Blast (now being called Baja Blast Zero Sugar), and was completely removed from all Taco Bell restaurants by March 2019.

2015 Limited-Time store release[]

In January 2015, information began leaking through the internet about a second store release of Baja Blast, accompanied by the debut store release of Sangrita Blast. On April 5th, 2015, the Baja Blast page of the official Mountain Dew website was launched with a countdown clock, and a message that read:

"The countdown is on: one of our most requested flavors is making its triumphant return to shelves. Starting April 20th, score MTN DEW® BAJA BLAST™—plus MTN DEW® SANGRITA BLAST™—in bottles and cans, but only for a limited time."

Freeze release[]

(2015) Taco Bell[]

Beginning in May 2015, participating Taco Bell locations began offering Mountain Dew Sangrita Blast Freeze, an icy variant of Sangrita Blast, replacing the preexisting Snapple Lemonade Freeze. It was discontinued at the beginning of September 2015 and was replaced by the Starburst Cherry Freeze.

Trivia[]

  • In recent years, there have been reports of some sightings of Sangrita Blast and Cyclone (both flavors are identical discontinued Citrus Punch flavors) within some gas stations, such as 7-Eleven, as recently as February 2023.
