Johnson City Gold

Johnson City Gold was a Mountain Dew flavor variant and part of the Regional Dew promotion.

Description

Johnson City Gold was a nonalcoholic Lemon-Lime flavored Mountain Dew, and was pale green in color.

Tagline

Its tagline was "Distinctive Malt Flavored soda from the makers of Mountain Dew."

History

This drink itself was a reference back to Mountain Dew creators Barney and Ally Hartman, who had a special malt mix of their drink that they only made for special occasions. The name "Johnson City Gold" refers to Johnson City, Tennessee, which is the town where Mountain Dew was first bottled in.

In December 2011, Dew Labs members were asked to partake in a poll to decide the name and design of the next Dew flavor. In July 2012, Mountain Dew revealed the flavor the world as "Johnson City Gold", stating that it would be released for a testing period through August.

Later, on August 9th, 2012, the Regional Dew promotion was launched through its website, which gave fans the ability to design and name the Malt-flavored Dew based on 1 of 6 United States regions. The flavor was eventually released using the most popular fan-created designs, using a different name and design depending on the region.
