Variant #1: Exotic Berry with Goji Variant #2: Exotic Berry with Dragon Fruit and Pomegranate |
(2007 - 2008) Clash was a test flavor that was planned to be released sometime after 2007 but was never made into fruition.
In February 2007, PepsiCo filed for a trademark on a possible design for an upcoming drink - "Mountain Dew Clash." Rumors of this possible drink first appeared when a member of the beverage-themed forums BevNet claimed to have received two test bottles of Clash from a product test panel. Included with his posts were a few very low-resolution images of the bottles, which used the same logo and packaging design as the trademarked one. However, Mountain Dew Clash never released, and no other images of it ever surfaced. PepsiCo abandoned the trademark in November 2008. It is generally accepted that Mountain Dew Clash was a planned beverage whose plans were abandoned to make room for the other huge Mountain Dew promotions in 2007 (Game Fuel, DEWmocracy) and that the test bottles in the images posted were homemade. In October 2024, information about Clash was brought into light, with Dick Bridgforth, a Mountain Dew historian, confirming that Clash was a test flavor that was planning on possibly releasing one day. He confirmed that there were two flavor variants of Clash, the first one being Exotic Berry with Goji, and the second one being Exotic Berry with Dragon Fruit and Pomegranate. Although it was unfortunate that Clash was never released, it is speculated that both of its variants were turned into two flavors that actually released. The first variant possibly went on to be either Game Fuel (Electrifying Berry) or Goji Citrus Strawberry, while the second variant is possibly Thin Ice Freeze. |
