Liberty Chill

Not to be confused with Liberty Malt.

Liberty Chill (formerly known as Liberty Brew) was a Mountain Dew flavor released as part of the DEWnited States promotion in the Summer of 2019 and 2020 for a limited time. It later returned in June 2024 alongside two new flavors, namely Star Spangled Splash and Freedom Fusion, and was planning to return in June 2025 next summer, but was scrapped.

Description[]

Liberty Chill was 50 Flavors in one flavored Mountain Dew. It had a dark midnight blue color, with its flavor described as having a berry[1] taste.

Tagline[]

Its current tagline was "50 Flavors in one DEW."

Its previous tagline, used in 2019 and 2020 was "50 Flavors in One."

Speculation[]

During its initial release in 2019, many people who tried Liberty Chill drew comparisons to a Popsicle, such as a Bomb Pop, or numerous types of gummies, such as Lifesavers Wild Berry Gummies and Burger gummies.

In its second release, PepsiCo in 2020 decided to slightly alter its flavor, which partly lost its "gummy-esque" taste.

In its third release, it was slightly changed but retains a bit of that "gummy-esque" taste, especially in its aftertaste.

History[]

2019 Limited-Time store release[]

On August 22nd, 2018, PepsiCo filed a trademark for Liberty Chill (previously called Liberty Brew) titled "MTN DEW LIBERTY BREW."[2]

On December 19th, 2018, a PepsiCo employee confirmed[3] a release window of various upcoming flavors for 2019. These flavors are the four flavors of Amp Game Fuel (Cherry Burst, Berry Blast, Original Dew, and Tropical Strike), a Halloween VooDEW mystery flavor, Merry Mash-Up returning for its second release, and an unnamed 50 Flavors in One flavor. After that, fans then theorized that its name could be Liberty Brew.

On January 9th, 2019, in a r/MountainDew Reddit post[4], Liberty Brew had been confirmed by an another PepsiCo employee and the next day they posted a photograph[5] of various sizes of it. The employee gave a release between late April to early May, later announced as May 15th.

A few weeks after this leak, MtnDewKid posted a photograph on Instagram[6] of a close-up of Liberty Brew's label, confirming the 50 Flavors in One flavor theory correct. Later, the YouTube channel myCountyMarket[7] posted a product review[8] about the Summer-themed-flavor.

The planned release date of May 15th was pushed back for unknown reasons, and it was officially released in stores in the United States on June 2nd, 2019, for a limited time, sold in 12-packs and 20-ounce bottles. It stayed on store shelves until August 11th, 2019, when the DEWnited States promotion[9] ended and was discontinued.

2020 Limited-Time store release[]

In December 2019, on the Dew Drinker Discord[10] server, it was leaked that Liberty Brew would be released in the Summer of 2020.

It was officially released in stores in the United States on June 15th, 2020, for a limited time, sold in 12-packs and 20-ounce bottles. It stayed on store shelves until September 6th, 2020, when the DEWnited States promotion ended and was discontinued once again.

2024 Limited-Time store release[]

On September 22nd, 2023, it was leaked on the Dew Drinker Discord detailing information on PepsiCo's plans and release schedule for 2024 of the majority of flavors. The detailed leak here is as follows: The Summer re-release of Liberty Brew alongside two new flavors, Star Spangled Splash and Freedom Fusion, Game Fuel (Citrus Cherry) alongside Game Fuel (Midnight Mission) (the latter later renamed Game Fuel (Citrus Blackberry)), two Baja flavors, Baja Laguna Lemonade and Baja Point Break Punch with a Doritos chip flavor, Baja Fiery Mango[11].

On November 20th, 2023[12], Team Supernova[13] provided a better picture of the unfinished looks of each patriotic-themed flavor and provided a release month of June 2024. It was also revealed that Star Spangled's name was slightly changed to Star Spangled Splash, although this was not shown in the picture provided.

On January 17th, 2024[14], Team Supernova posted an update about Liberty Brew's name being renamed to Liberty Chill, while Freedom Frenzy's name being renamed to Freedom Fusion.

On June 1st, 2024[15], Team Supernova posted an update on PepsiCo's massive release schedule of various drink brands for June 2024. All brands have a target date of June 17th. These are the brands here as follows: Liberty Chill, Star Spangled Splash, Freedom Fusion, Target-exclusive Bubly Melted Ice Pop, Little Caesars-exclusive Pepsi Pineapple (all limited-time releases), and a permanent release of Infinite Swirl.

2024 MTN DEW Cooler Quest Promotion[]

On June 11th, 2024, the official Mountain Dew Twitter account announced[16] that they would be hosting an outdoor hunt to celebrate the first day of summer and the release of the three limited time patriotic flavors. The sweepstakes promotion started on June 20th at 12 PM EST and ended at 2 PM EST on the same day.

During the promotion, the Twitter account revealed the exact GPS coordinates and posted updates on the five coolers per location of these exact GPS coordinates of 10 outdoor spots across the country.

After the promotion, the fans hunted down the coolers, which contained a $250 gift card and a cooler filled with the three flavors as a prize.

2025 Cancelled Limited-Time store release[]

On August 11th, 2024[17], Team Supernova announced that the three patriotic flavors will be returning in June 2025 next year with a set target date of June 17th, 2025, and will also be featured in a 28-pack in Sam's Club.

On October 19th, 2024[18], Team Supernova announced that the patriotic trio, Liberty Chill, Freedom Fusion, and Star Spangled Splash, had been scrapped due to unexpectedly hefty amounts of waste. Instead, Summer Freeze, with its Zero Sugar variant, planning to return in their place in June 2025.

Variants[]

Mountain Dew Energy (Liberty Brew)[]

Main article: Mountain Dew Energy (Liberty Brew)

On September 23rd, 2023[19], it was leaked by Team Supernova that VooDEW 6.0, alongside its Zero Sugar variant, would be releasing in Fall 2024 with a collaboration of a top candy brand. Additionally, Kroger-exclusive Thrashed Apple would be nationally discontinued alongside Major Melon and Spark at the end of 2023, alongside the entirety of the Mountain Dew Energy line in January of 2024 with the then-discovered Mountain Dew Energy (Liberty Brew) and Mountain Dew Energy (Baja Laguna Lemonade) having been canceled.

Trivia[]

  • Liberty Brew was featured on the YouTube channel myCountyMarket along with several other pre-release flavors of Mountain Dew from 2016 to 2019.
  • This flavor is the second American-themed flavor to release, the first being DEW-S-A (2017, 2021), the third being Summer Freeze (2023, 2025), and the fourth and fifth being Star Spangled Splash and Freedom Fusion (both 2024).
  • In 2022, Liberty Brew 20-ounce bottles were being incorrectly advertised on the digital screens in the fridge coolers of many Walgreens stores, though the last release was in 2020.
  • The 50 Flavors in Liberty Chill are currently unknown. It is also still unknown as to what they combine to make.
    • However, in its latest release, a PR Newswire article describes it as having "a blend of 50 flavors to create a bold midnight blue color and berry taste." While other retail websites such as Walmart describes it as having an "exhilarating burst of cherry & berry flavors."
  • When Liberty Brew got its name change to Liberty Chill in 2024, people tended to hate the name change, and why the name change was possibly due to avoid association with the Hard Mountain Dew brand.
  • When Liberty Chill, Star Spangled Splash, and Freedom Fusion, all three patriotic flavors, were released, many people started to mix these three flavors to create another version of DEW-S-A, another patriotic flavor, and that flavor has a mixture of Code Red, White Out, and Voltage together.
