Kickstart Hydrating Boost (Energizing Watermelon)

Kickstart Hydrating Boost (Energizing Watermelon) was a flavor of Mountain Dew Kickstart released in January 2016. It is made with coconut water.

Description

Kickstart Hydrating Boost (Energizing Watermelon) is, as its name suggests, a watermelon flavored drink, and is red-pink in color. It is similar in both flavor and color to that of Flavor 648 and Major Melon. Like the other Kickstart Hydrating Boost flavors, it contains added coconut water.

History

In early 2016, the flavor was released alongside Kickstart (Energizing Midnight Grape), Kickstart Recharge (Energizing Blueberry Pomegranate), and Kickstart Recharge (Energizing Blood Orange).

Among the adverts used to promote the new Kickstart flavors included the now-infamous Puppy Monkey Baby character. The ad features a computer-generated mash-up of three things that the public generally finds to be cute or harmless; a Pug puppy (the head), a monkey (the body and tail), and a dancing baby (the hips and legs). The puppy monkey baby dances with three men who are presumably watching the Super Bowl, offering them Mountain Dew Kickstart, which is similarly described as being a combination of three things (Mountain Dew, juice, and caffeine).

In 2019, as the Kickstart flavors were being redesigned two years after Mountain Dew slightly changed its logo, Kickstart Hydrating Boost (Energizing Watermelon) was discontinued alongside Kickstart Recharge (Energizing Blood Orange) and Kickstart Ultra (Energizing Original Dew), although unused design renders of all three flavors using the newer designs exist (which can be seen on the flavors' gallery pages).
