HoneyDEW is a Franchise Exclusive Mountain Dew slated to release in the United States in January 2023, but was canceled in favor of Pitch Black's limited-time release. It was released nationwide in Canada for a limited time that year and will return as a permanent flavor in both countries in 2025.
Description[]
HoneyDEW is a Honeydew Melon flavor of Mountain Dew. It is green in color, with a flavor profile comparable with the Walmart exclusive, Frost Bite and Major Melon.
Tagline[]
Its tagline in Canada is simplified to "Honey-DEW" in English or "Melon-Miel" in French, while in the United States, its 2025 redesign tagline is "HoneyDEW Flavor with Other Natural Flavors."
History[]
2023 Canceled U.S. release[]
HoneyDEW was first leaked on a deleted r/MountainDew Reddit post[1] on August 7th, 2022, detailing PepsiCo's plans and release schedule for 2023 of the majority of flavors. The detailed leak here is as follows: HoneyDEW, Cobra Cane, Summer 2023's Baja Blast, VooDEW 5.0, and a DEWcision 2023 promotion of Typhoon and Pitch Black. Most of these were canceled except for the Summer release of Baja Blast and the Halloween release VooDEW 5.0, both of which ended up being released that year.
When this leak surfaced, the bottle design for HoneyDEW was not legible as the photo was low quality. However, reliable PepsiCo employees confirmed that this green flavor was a Honeydew Melon flavor and that they were not allowed to reveal the name of the HoneyDEW flavor. Weeks later, on August 18th, an anonymous source on the Dew Drinker Discord disclosed its name to be "MTN DEW HoneyDEW."
On September 2nd, 2022, on the Dew Drinker Discord, it was revealed that HoneyDEW, the DEWcision 2023 promotion of Typhoon and Pitch Black, and a then-discovered Major Melon ENERGY were all canceled in favor of different releases.
2025 Upcoming U.S. release[]
On January 26th, 2025[2], Team Supernova[3] announced that HoneyDEW is set to be released in the United States in July 2025 as a Franchise Exclusive flavor to various chains as a permanent flavor with no Zero Sugar variant. Team Supernova also speculated that this could be the Wawa/Meijer exclusive and Maverik was named. Regional retailers throughout the country could be mostly available in the North, South, East, and West, though this exclusive chain information is still pending[4].
International release[]
Canada[]
2023 Limited-Time store release[]
On December 20th, 2022, on the Dew Drinker Discord, it was discovered that HoneyDEW was Kosher certified[5] on the Kashruth Council of Canada database. After this discovery, many people started to theorize that HoneyDEW could be released in Canada in 2023, but there was no information other than it was Kosher-certified.
No additional information surfaced until August 2nd, 2023 when it was leaked on a deleted r/MountainDew post[6] that HoneyDEW would be releasing nationwide for a limited time only in 20-ounce bottles, not exclusive to a Franchise. The post signified that it should be out "around three weeks," about Mid-to-Late August 2023, to release, and it was unknown at that time how long the limited-time release would last.
On August 15th, 2023, it was announced throughout DewCanada's socials[7] that HoneyDEW was available for a limited time until Mid-October 2023[8].
2025 Permanent store release[]
On September 20th, 2024[9], Team Supernova[10] announced that HoneyDEW is slated to return to Canada as a permanent flavor in Early 2025, and will be a Circle K/Couche-Tard exclusive and then will extend nationwide, only available in 20-ounce bottles.
Trivia[]
- On a similar occasion, Crystal Pepsi with a Zero Sugar variant was planned to be released in the Summer of 2022[11]. However, it was canceled in the U.S. but wasn't canceled for its Canadian Summer 2022 release.
- Due to it being canceled in the U.S. for its 2023 release, HoneyDEW is the second Mountain Dew flavor created and sold in Canada that was not a preexisting flavor from another country, the first being Berry Twister.
- In Canada, most Mountain Dew flavors usually do not describe the corresponding drink comprehensively in a tagline such as U.S. Purple Thunder's "DEW with a Blast of Berry Plum. Natural and Artificial Flavor." Canada preferably calls it directly "BLACKBERRY PLUM" in English or "MÛRE ET PRUNE" in French for Canadian Purple Thunder, for example.
- In the 2000s, Canada used to acclimate taglines such as 2002's Code Red and 2004's Pitch Black, but it was discarded, likely due to the complexity of detailing the flavor in English and French and also the packaging design.
- Its U.S. July 2025 release for the various exclusive chains, HoneyDEW could be available throughout multiple separately owned chains. It has been done before with Purple Thunder with Circle K and Kroger not affiliated with each other and also Goji Citrus Strawberry with various gas stations/restaurants.
- On February 21st, 2025[12], Team Supernova mentioned that American PepsiCo oversees Canadian product releases and that the U.S. will be getting HoneyDEW as a permanent exclusive, following its successful limited-time release in Canada in 2023.
