Frost Bite

Frost Bite was a Franchise Exclusive Mountain Dew flavor available from March 2020 to May 2025 only at Walmart stores.

Description[]

Frost Bite was described as "a burst of icy refreshment and cool melon" flavor of Mountain Dew. It was cobalt blue in color, with a flavor profile comparable to the Fall 2017 flavor Game Fuel (Arctic Burst).

Tagline[]

Its tagline was "Naturally and Artificially Flavored DEW."

Flavor profile description[]

When Frost Bite was first leaked in Late 2019, there was no information about its flavor profile. In February 2020, the Mountain Dew community eventually found its flavor to be "a burst of icy refreshment and cool melon" from the official PepsiCo Nutrition Facts website[1]. Once the discovery was made, PepsiCo eventually removed that description after discovery.

History[]

On October 22nd, 2019, PepsiCo filed[2] a trademark name for Frost Bite titled "MTN DEW FROST BITE."

Frost Bite was first leaked on the Dew Drinker Discord in late 2019. However, the community and moderation team prevented the leak's spread, both to prevent the drink's launch from potentially getting canceled (based on what happened to Happy Dew Year), as well as for the safety of the leaker.

On January 15th, 2020, in a r/MountainDew Reddit post[3], Frost Bite was leaked by a PepsiCo employee named "mtndewinsider," showing an advertisement of a 16.9-ounce bottle of Frost Bite to which they later received as a 20-ounce test sample bottle[4]. Also, the employee also gave a statement about the release, stating that it would get released in Walmart stores and mentioning a release date of April 2020.

It was officially released in Walmart stores in the United States on March 23rd, 2020, sold in 12-packs, 24-pack cubes, 16.9-ounce bottle multipacks, and 20-ounce Sidekick bottles as a permanent flavor.

May 2025 discontinuation[]

On October 15th, 2024[5], Team Supernova[6] posted an update on Major Melon's and Spark's alongside their Zero Sugar variant's regional status to be "out of market" in January 2025. As for the Walmart exclusive, Frost Bite is set to be "out of market" in May 2025 as Walmart didn't renew the contract[7] of its status.

Frost Bite is now discontinued in May 2025, with Dragon Fruit replacing it as the new Walmart-exclusive flavor next month.

Variants[]

Frost Bite Zero Sugar[]

In January 2021, a SmartLabel listing[8] for a 20-ounce bottle of Frost Bite Zero Sugar was leaked. A few days after the leak, it was confirmed by a Pepsi employee on the Dew Drinker Discord that it was planned to be released sometime around April 2021, and would be available in 12-packs and 20-ounce bottles. A week later, another leak from a Mountain Dew fan group on Facebook revealed that Frost Bite Zero Sugar was officially set to release on March 22nd, 2021[9].

In mid-2023, the availability was speculated/believed by many people about Frost Bite Zero Sugar was allegedly to be discontinued due to it not being in stock in most store locations. After assumption, it was confirmed in October 2023. It was because it had been discontinued and not produced for the past year.

Trivia[]

  • This flavor was leaked long before its release on the Dew Drinker Discord.
  • This is the third Mountain Dew flavor exclusively released at a retail store, the first being Typhoon's 2011 Back by Popular DEWmand re-release (another Walmart exclusive) and the second being the Dollar General exclusive Maui Burst.
  • Frost Bite was initially planned to be released for a limited time from March to June 2020. It was later changed to be an exclusive flavor thru the end 2020 only at Walmart stores in the United States. Employees stated that its status past 2020 would depend on its success at Walmart.
