History[]

On January 25th, 2025[1], Team Supernova[2] announced that a new exclusive flavor named Dragon Fruit will be available in June 2025 only at Walmart, replacing Frost Bite as the new Walmart-exclusive flavor in 12-ounce cans and 20-ounce bottles, with no Zero Sugar variant.

On June 9th, 2025[3], Team Supernova announced the upcoming release of two new flavors. The first flavor, Dragon Fruit, will be released as a Walmart exclusive, available in 12-packs and 20-ounce bottles, replacing the previous exclusive, Frost Bite. The second flavor, Summer Freeze, is being brought back by popular demand and will be available in both Regular and Zero Sugar options in 20-ounce bottles and cans for a limited time. Both flavors were released on June 15th.

Canada[]

The Kashruth Council of Canada updated their Kosher Certification list in June 2024, listing many new products including Summer Freeze FCB (short for Frozen Carbonated Beverage), as well as another frozen beverage named MTN DEW DragonFruit FCB. It is unknown when or if this will come out to Canada.

Trivia[]

  • This is the first modern Dragonfruit flavor planned since the cancelled Mountain Dew Energy (Dragonfruit Charge). Additionally, it is the second Dragonfruit flavor produced, the first being the dragonfruit, acai, and pomegranate-flavored Thin Ice Freeze.
  • This flavor is one of three Walmart-exclusive Mountain Dew flavors.
    • The others were 2011's Typhoon in the 2-Liter size, 2020 to 2025's Frost Bite, and 2025's Dragon Fruit.
  • Similar to how Purple Thunder replaced Thrashed Apple as the new exclusive Kroger flavor in February 2024, Dragon Fruit replaced Frost Bite as the new exclusive Walmart flavor in June 2025. Both are retail store exclusives, and the only difference is Purple Thunder was already an exclusive flavor to Circle K and had an expansion, while Dragon Fruit is a new flavor.
  • A similarly-named trademark called "MTN DEW DRAGON BLAST"[4] was filed on June 6th, 2022.
