DEW-S-A

DEW-S-A was a Mountain Dew flavor initially released in the Summer of 2017 for a limited time. In March 2020, plans came out that it would be coming back in July 2020 as a tie-in to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games before being pushed back to Summer 2021.

Description[]

DEW-S-A was a mixture of Mountain Dew and had a purple look with a combination of three existing flavors: Red for Code Red, White for White Out, and Blue for Voltage, which represent the colors of the United States flag.

Half-diet formulation[]

Main article: Flavor 514C

The original 2017 version of DEW-S-A features a "Half-Diet" formulation where the amount of High Fructose Corn Syrup was reduced in favor of the the artificial sweeteners Sucralose and Acesulfame Potassium in order to reduce calories (100 for cans, 170 for 20-ounce bottles). It was the third Mountain Dew variety (after Game Fuel (Citrus Cherry) and Game Fuel (Mango Heat)) to undergo this change, although it was the first to be initially formulated as such.

Full Sugar formulation[]

The 2021 re-release was re-formulated to match standard Mountain Dew varieties, leading to the removal of the artificial sweetners and the calorie amount changing to the standard amount (170 for can, 290 for 20-ounce bottles) that most Mountain Dew variants use.

Tagline[]

Its tagline was "DEW United with 3 Flavors."

History[]

2017 Limited-Time store release[]

On February 11th, 2017, Mtn Dew Kid posted on his website page that a brand-new flavor of Mountain Dew called DEW-S-A was planning on releasing in the summertime. At the time, he speculated it would release to celebrate July 4th based on its America-themed design.

It was officially released in stores in late April 2017, throughout the United States for a limited time in 12-packs and 20-ounce bottles until the start of August 2017, where after that, Liberty Brew would succeed it in 2019 and 2020.

2021 Limited-Time store release[]

After three years of popular demand to bring the flavor back, even after being succeeded by Liberty Brew, PepsiCo planned to release DEW-S-A. This limited-time release was scheduled initially in July 2020, with leaks stating it was to be released alongside Liberty Brew as a tie in to the Olympics. Due to the Olympics delayed until 2021, the DEW-S-A rerelease was also delayed.

On August 4th, 2020, on the Dew Drinker Discord, information was leaked by an anonymous individual showing upcoming plans for 2021 with many flavors and new brands alike. All of these leaks are as follows: Major Melon, alongside its Zero Sugar variant, Rise Energy, Baja Blast alongside two flavors, Baja Flash and Baja Punch, DEW-S-A, Riddler's Brew, Gingerbread Snap'd, and a re-release of Pepsi Blue.

Two months after the leaks from August 2020, on October 8th, 2020, a leaked internal reel video surfaced on the same Dew Drinker Discord server, showing upcoming plans for the Mountain Dew brand for 2021. This video reaffirmed much of the previously-leaked information for 2021 for all of the flavors previously mentioned.

It was officially released in stores in April 19th, 2021, throughout the United States for a limited time in 12-packs, 16.9 and 20-ounce bottles until the start of June 14th, 2021, where after that, Summer Freeze would succeed it in 2023.

Trivia[]

  • This flavor was the first American-themed flavor to release, the second being Liberty Brew/Liberty Chill (2019, 2020, 2024), the third being Summer Freeze (2023), and the fourth and fifth being Star Spangled Splash and Freedom Fusion (both 2024).
    • This flavor also had a similar architecture to another mixture flavor in the same year, Holiday 2017's Holiday Brew (a combination of two existing flavors: Red for Code Red, Green for Original Mountain Dew, which represent the colors of the Holidays.)
  • In a similar 4th of July promotion, Mountain Dew Red, White, and Blue Combo Packs were available at select Sam's Club stores in the United States of 2014. Like DEW-S-A, these packs consisted of Code Red, White Out, and Voltage.
  • The name DEW-S-A is a DEW-themed play on words, inserting the word "DEW" into "USA."
  • For it's original release in 2017, DEW-S-A's design said "new flavor," and was removed for the 2021 release.
  • In 2017, the 12 pack design had a red background, while its 2021 release was changed to a blue background.
