Citrus Charge

Not to be confused with Citrus Blast.

Citrus Charge was a Mountain Dew flavor variant exclusive only to Canada. Like Energised in Australia, this version had the exact same color and taste as its precursor, but with caffeine.

History[]

In February 2012, the Mountain Dew brand in Canada was relaunched and caffeine was added, similar to Australia's relaunch a few months later that same year. During this time, two freeze variants were also released: a Slurpee variant at 7-Elevens and a froster at Circle K locations.

To coincide with the launch, a 30-second commercial titled "Wrecking Ball of DEW" was created to advertise the product. The commercial featured a stuntman delivering a 200 foot foot dive into a large green balloon filled up with Mountain Dew, introducing the country to a refreshing "Citrus Charge Experience" as the balloon explodes in spectacular fashion. The commercial was set to the song "My Body" by Young the Giant.[1]

In 2017, the Citrus Charge banner was dropped, with Mountain Dew in Canada receiving an almost identical design to that of its American counterpart.

Trivia[]

  • Unlike in Australia, subsequently released flavors were not released under the Citrus Charge banner.
  • As can be seen on its label art, the flavor was known in French as "Attaque d'Agrumes."
  • Despite being launched as a new 'flavor', as mentioned previously, this variant of Mountain Dew tastes no different than the original recipe. The only difference is the slightly lower caffeine count at 51mg per 100ml, compared to 54mg per 100ml in the United States.
