Baja Cabo Citrus

Baja Cabo Citrus was a Mountain Dew flavor released for a limited time in Spring 2025 for two months with a Zero Sugar variation alongside Doritos Guacamole.

Description[]

Cabo Citrus was a Tropical Citrus Punch (Tangerine-Lime) flavor of Mountain Dew. It was red-orange in color, with a flavor profile comparable to that of LiveWire, and with its Baja Family of Flavors.

Before release, its flavor profile and branding underwent testing various names like Cabo Citrus, Citrus Sunrise, and Paloma Punch and flavor variations of the same "Tropical Citrus Punch" of the Baja branded drink with a snack promotion concept alongside it.

Tagline[]

Cabo Citrus and Paloma Punch's prototype tagline was "DEW with a Blast of Natural and Artificial Tropical Punch Flavor."

Cabo Citrus's tagline was "DEW Natural and Artificial Tropical Citrus Punch Flavor." while its Zero Sugar version's tagline was "Zero Sugar DEW: Natural and Artificial Tropical Punch Flavor."

History[]

Baja Paloma Punch[]

Before Cabo Citrus and Citrus Sunrise, the first flavor out of the three that leaked was Paloma Punch.

On April 16th, 2024[1], Team Supernova[2] posted a leak of an image of a Baja Paloma Punch concept for Taco Bell. This flavor is based on a popular cocktail (Grapefruit-Lime) called the "Paloma." Like Baja Blast's formulation designed to taste best for their Mexican-inspired food, Baja Paloma Punch is the same as formulated (labeled "THE PERFECT PAIRING") with their Tacos.

Taco Bell wanted to look for a suitable new exclusive companion flavor alongside Baja Blast for their restaurants. It has been done before with former exclusive Sangrita Blast with that flavor being exclusive as a fountain drink, made a Freeze release, and made a limited-time bottle/can release in 2015.

The concept was for a limited-time drink to be released for an eight-week run beginning in Spring 2025[3] while having a Fountain and a Freeze release in Taco Bell locations.

While that concept fell through, Taco Bell announced a new flavor called Baja Midnight on March 4th, 2025[4], during the Live Más LIVE event.

Baja Cabo Citrus[]

The second flavor out of the three that leaked was Cabo Citrus.

On May 30th, 2024[5], Baja Cabo Citrus was first leaked from a marketing survey in another Mountain Dew Facebook fan group. Aside from the leak, it has the potential (at that time) to be released in 2025.

After this discovery, fans speculated that its flavor could be a Mango-Lime-Orange-Grapefruit flavor because of the artwork design. Fans also speculated that the flavor profile could be similar to Casey's-exclusive Citrus Punch (Raspberry-Lime-Mango) flavored Overdrive.

On August 19th, 2024[6], Team Supernova posted a Sporked article stating that a singular Baja spinoff flavor will instead be released in Spring 2025 rather than the usual two. It seems that Cabo Citrus will be released under a new name: Baja Citrus Sunrise, only in a Zero Sugar variant, and its flavor will be a Lime-Grapefruit flavor, sold in 12-packs and 20-ounce bottles.

On September 11th, 2024, PepsiCo filed[7] a trademark name for Baja Cabo Citrus titled "MTN DEW BAJA CABO CITRUS."

On October 23rd, 2024[8], an Instagram account named snachwithzach with Team Supernova posted a reel video collab. Baja Cabo Citrus plans to release as a Full-Sugar variant with a Zero Sugar variant alongside a returning Doritos flavor from the 2000s, Doritos Guacamole.

In the video, on the bottle's top label, the concept of "THE PERFECT PAIRING" is reused and reworked from the Tacos from Taco Bell instead of pairing it with Doritos Guacamole.

On December 3rd, 2024, on Facebook, under the Mountain Dew Fan Club group, a PepsiCo employee posted a photograph displaying a bottle of Baja Cabo Citrus's new design in a 20-ounce bottle. The post received massive amounts of likes in the early morning. Eventually, it was deleted for safety concerns after a few hours, and Team Supernova (one of the admins), made a post[9] regarding posting it anonymously or sending the new information to him.

On March 1st, 2025[10], Team Supernova revealed higher quality sizes renders of Baja Cabo Citrus and revealed its Tropical Punch flavor of "Tangerine-Lime," slated to be released of a target date on April 21st, 2025[11] with Doritos Guacamole on the 28th.[12]

Baja Cabo Citrus was officially released for a limited time on April 21st, 2025, and is available in retail stores across the United States for two months. Full-Sugar and Zero-Sugar variants are offered in 20-ounce bottles and 12-pack sizes, alongside Doritos Guacamole.

Baja Citrus Sunrise[]

The third flavor out of the three that leaked was Citrus Sunrise.

On July 29th, 2024, PepsiCo filed[13] a trademark name for Baja Citrus Sunrise titled "MTN DEW BAJA BLAST CITRUS SUNRISE."

After the trademark was filed[14], fans were speculating that this could be a companion flavor for Cabo Citrus, though it was a new name for Cabo Citrus, but PepsiCo later ditched that name and opted in for Cabo Citrus instead.

Regarding the trademarks, Cabo Citrus and Citrus Sunrise have trademarks, while Paloma Punch wasn't trademarked.

    • Baja Cabo Citrus is the last non-exclusive market flavor to release with the old 2017 logo, while Mango Rush is the last franchise-exclusive flavor to release with the old 2017 logo.
