Game Fuel (Charged Berry Blast)

Game Fuel (Charged Berry Blast) was a Mountain Dew Game Fuel flavor released on January 14th, 2019 as part of the four flavors of the initial lineup.

Description[]

Game Fuel (Charged Berry Blast) was a Berry flavor of Mountain Dew and had a blue look. It had a comparable tasting flavor and color to that of Game Fuel (Berry Lime).

It was a low-sugar energy drink having 90 Milligrams of Caffeine, Fruit Juice, 40% (20 G) added Sugar, Niacin, Pantothenic Acid, and Vitamins A&B6, similar to the Energy line.

History[]

Main article: Game Fuel Promotion

This line initially consisted of two flavors, namely Cherry Burst and Berry Blast. These two flavors were originally part of the original Game Fuel line before was officially announced at the 2018 NACS Show in October that the original Game Fuel line was renamed/rebranded/merged with the Amp branding. During that time, Game Fuel (Citrus Cherry)'s Game Fuel branding was removed and it was rebranded as Citrus Cherry.

On August 12th, 2018, a Game Fuel online store was opened on Amazon that listed the previously mentioned two Game Fuel flavors (without Amp branding). A few days after the store was opened, it was closed on August 16th.

On October 1st, 2018, there was a rumor that two more flavors, a green and a yellow flavor, would be joining the initial two flavors. This was later confirmed, with Original Dew and Tropical Strike joining the line of flavors.

On November 7th, 2018, YouTube channel myCountyMarket posted a new product review about the rebranded Amp Game Fuel line in their video on YouTube. The channel's video revealed that it would be released sometime in January 2019 in retail stores. The channel's video also mentioned that the Amp Game Fuel line (at the time) were not promoting any specific video game release.

On December 8th, 2018, the same Amazon online store was reopened when Walmart opened their online store, listing the four Amp Game Fuel flavors: Cherry Burst, Berry Blast, Original Dew, and Tropical Strike. Both listings on the retail sites show an official launch date of January 14th, 2019, in both retail stores and online.

The Amp Game Fuel line was officially released to stores in the United States on January 14th, 2019, as a permanent lineup and was available in 16-ounce resealable grip cans. The four flavors were later joined by Orange Storm in late 2019, alongside two other flavors: Raspberry Lemonade Zero and Watermelon Shock Zero in early 2020.

2021 Rename and Store discontinuation[]

In early 2021, a new Mountain Dew energy drink line called Mountain Dew Energy (at the time called RISE Energy) was released and replaced the Amp Game Fuel line in retail stores. Months prior to Late 2020, the Amp branding was dropped from the Game Fuel brand, making the now-called Game Fuel brand an online exclusive.

2023 Online discontinuation[]

In early 2023, online stores that had the Game Fuel line were out of stock, and there was speculation it was discontinued. However, this was not confirmed until the official Mountain Dew website was overhauled, which removed all references to or ability to purchase Game Fuel online.

Trivia[]

  • Since 2017, Game Fuel (Citrus Cherry) was absent from the Every60Seconds promotion until it was released as an adapted version for the Amp Game Fuel line in April 2022 for a Dr. Disrespect promotion.
  • Game Fuel (Berry Blast) is the third Berry flavored Game Fuel, the first being Game Fuel (Electrifying Berry) and the second being Game Fuel (Berry Lime).
  • In December 2018, preordering a 12 pack of the four Amp Game Fuel flavors from Walmart would grant you a beta access code to the video game Tom Clancy's The Division 2. Therefore, to an extent, the Amp Game Fuel products promoted a video game much like the regular Game Fuel flavors did. Later, Game Fuel products were used to promote yearly Call of Duty game releases.
  • Game Fuel (Charged Berry Blast) was featured on the YouTube channel myCountyMarket along with several other pre-release flavors of Mountain Dew from 2016 to 2019.
